Residents travelling along the Murray Valley Highway will have noticed preliminary site works on the parcel of land adjacent to Bunnings.
A spokesperson of Kaiela Park said the progress of an ALDI supermarket at the development will push forward quickly now minor intersection changes on the entrance at Franc Drive alongside of the development have been approved by Regional Roads Victoria.
“Engineering and designs are approved, the tender for those works has been awarded, and we are just waiting on the department now to approve the traffic guidance plan,” the spokesperson said.
“Works on the intersection will be finished prior to Aldi opening.”
The spokesperson also added that contrary to rumours, they were never requested to construct a roundabout or traffics light on the intersection.
“There will be no works regarding this development on the highway except for some added lighting installed. Delays have been purely from the department of transport and not the shire.
Moira Shire Council said that all the ducks are lined up as far as planning approval goes and the civil plans for Aldi are approved.
For many years the Yarrawonga and Mulwala communities have been asking for further supermarket competition, with ALDI confirming during the pandemic as the Glanmire Park development began, that they would expand their network by building a new store.
With much too-ing and fro-ing, rumours gained traction around town that the supermarket chain had pulled the pin and whilst the Yarrawonga Chronicle published statements from Aldi HQ, many were still led to believe that the store was not coming to the area.
In early 2023 several job roles for the Yarrawonga store were advertised on online employment marketplaces with a spokesperson at the time confirming the local store would employ 10-15 full time and part-time employees and would be comparable to the Shepparton store in terms of size.
By late 2023 roles were no longer visible, however as of June 19 2024, job employment site ‘Seek’ have advertised for a Duty Store Manager – Yarrawonga with distinct knowledge that this is a ‘new store opening’.
For those who apply for the role and are successful, the ad states that the location of the role will “initially be a store close to you (Benalla, Wangaratta, Shepparton, Albury or Wodonga) until the Yarrawonga store is completed”.
The job ad also states that the Yarrawonga store will be “opening approximately December 2024 with an actual date TBC”.
“We are excited to bring our unique shopping experience to Yarrawonga and will update the community as our plans progress," an Aldi spokesperson said.
