Romantic Comedy, a production by Bernard Shade, is well on its way of featuring on the local stage in mid-November.
Allegro’s Barb Macdermid said the rehearsals have been “full on” with scripts now down to the delight of the directors.
“We can’t wait to announce, ‘lights, camera, action’ for the opening show on November 15,” Barb said.
This production was chosen as a new type of show for the audiences, offering four cabaret shows and one matinee in Yarrawonga and an extra cabaret show to be staged at Wilby.
“This means that audiences can bring their snack food and refreshments to the cabaret sessions,” Barb said.
Barb said the entire action of the play, with many laughs, gasps, romantic mishaps, intrigue, heartbreaks, and a great night out, takes place in the study of Jason Carmichael’s New York townhouse.”
Jason Carmichael is a Playwright. He himself says he is a difficult person and that some people find him impossible.
In his own words, he is ‘demanding, selfish, obsessive, moody, arrogant and rarely satisfied’!
He admits that his mother describes him as ‘lacking warmth’. And yet he promotes some sort of fascination among women.
Married then separated, an affair here and another there, a hand in breaking up a friend’s marriage – where does it end?
“Romantic? Yes! Comedy? Most definitely! Wonderful entertainment with lots of laughs,” Barb added.
“All designed to perform at the Yarrawonga Anglican Church, Piper Street Hall.
“We are so fortunate that Allegro has this wonderful stage and hall to utilise as the Yarrawonga Town Hall has been out of action for Allegro for over five years now.
“At least a show can be performed, so we invite everyone to gather a table of friends, to make the best of this opportunity and support the cast, crew and Allegro Theatre Company in general. Plus, it will be a top fun night or day out. Single tickets are also available!”
Barb said that talented theatre director and actor, Steve Thornycroft from Wangaratta has taken on the dedicated role of director for this play.
“We also have an enthusiastic assistant director, also from Wangaratta and new to Allegro, in Shelley Bovenkamp.
“Both directors are really extending the talents and skills of the present, dedicated cast, some of whom are travelling from Benalla, Wangaratta and Albury as well as locally.”
The cast and crew have been dedicating their time and energies to the many rehearsal schedules, the props, costuming, set constructions, music, audio, lighting, prompting, promotions, marketing and so much more for months.
Dates for the performances are; November 15,16,17, 22, 23 in Yarrawonga and November 30 at Wilby.
“This special event is there for everyone to celebrate and enjoy and all it takes is to make a booking.
“See you there,” Bard said.
