Moira Shire Council had a special visit from the Victorian Attorney General, the Honorable Jaclyn Symes, Member for Northern Victoria in late December to receive an update on the positive progress being made across the Council in the last 12 months.
The meeting with council’s Administrators Dr Graeme Emonson PSM and Suzanna Sheed AM in Cobram was an opportunity to discuss various matters of importance to the Moira community.
These included progress and planning for education in Yarrawonga, including plans for the former Yarrawonga Primary School site, the need for dialysis facilities at Cobram, local partnership initiatives to help address gender-based violence, as well as impacts from planned water buybacks.
Council highlighted the establishment of a new Community Panel to help shape the community’s future, as well as the positive community impact from the 2024 Moira Shire Community Leadership Program’s next generation of regional leaders.
Ms Symes was also updated on key major projects, including the proposed Yarrawonga-Mulwala bridge replacement, as well as major developments in Numurkah and Yarrawonga.
“Meeting with Min Symes was an important step in continuing to advocate for our community and to discuss how we can continue to work with the Victorian Government to build a strong future for our region,” Dr Emonson said.
“We are appreciative of the time the Attorney-General was able to spend with us, and for the really positive discussions we had.”
