However, Christmas season on our roads is also very chaotic with a heavy increase of traffic, increasing distractions and heavy usage of mobile phones.
With driver distraction accidents on the increase, most of them fatal and the majority of them caused by mobile phones, Road Safe North East are feverishly pushing their five Mobile Driver Distractions Slogans with various scenarios designed around the dangers of mobile distractions.
These messages are targeted to everyone who drives and utilises a mobile phone and created to bring the message close to home, to loved ones.
“Who will you be leaving behind??” – Don’t text & drive – It can wait!”
These slogans mean more than ever, especially in these times as drivers are urged to be vigilant and focus on their driving to arrive safely to family and loved ones for Christmas celebrations.
“Being on your mobile phone, not focusing or concentrating on what you are meant to be doing, like driving, can change your life completely in a matter of seconds,” Road Safe North East Media Communications Officer Committee Member Mary Vescio said.
“These are times when, it can wait!! Think about the people that you may be leaving behind, family and loved ones.
“People that we take for granted could be taken away just by a silly mistake that could be avoided.”
North East Road Safe urge people driving on our roads to take care, drive safe to and from their destination and please stay off your phones; lock them in the boot of the car or glove box, stay focused and concentrate on driving and arriving safely.
In the meantime, Road Safe North East wish you a very safe Merry Christmas and best wishes to the coming season.
