A planning application has been lodged with Campaspe Shire Council regarding the use and development of a childcare centre at 64-66 Albion St.
The planning report, made accessible through the council website’s public advertised application portal, revealed the proposed childcare centre would accommodate 80 children and operate from 6.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
A total of 17 staff members would be employed for the childcare centre.
The spacious 483-square-metre facility is designed with children’s needs in mind, featuring five dedicated play areas, along with amenities such as a kitchen, laundry and staff facilities to ensure a nurturing environment.
The development will also provide an 18-car parking space out the front of the childcare centre.
This new childcare centre would be a game-changer for Kyabram families.
A recent study showed a critical shortage across Australia, and in Kyabram specifically, with only one childcare spot for every two children, forcing many parents to look beyond town limits for care.
The town planning report emphasises that this development will address the community's childcare needs and boost local employment, contributing to Kyabram’s growth and prosperity.
The property is currently not occupied.
Director of sustainability Michael Sharp said council received the application in June 2024; however, it could not provide a timeline on whether it would be approved or not.
“The applicant is working though some outstanding matters and until a formal response is provided no decision on the application will be made,” he said.
If approved and developed, the childcare centre would join six other centres in Kyabram, including Aussie Kindies, Shine Bright P-12 Kindergarten, Shine Bright Municipal Kindergarten, Shine Bright Unwin St Kindergarten, Kyabram Community and Learning Centre and The Loop School-Aged Care.
