Wilby in Limelight
An almost full house was delighted to see the newly formed theatre group, Limelight Touring Company, at Wilby Hall on Saturday, November 9.
The innovative new company chose the play 'Waiting' by Dina Ross for their debut performance. The talented cast of four consisted of Kirsty Woods, Brenda Spilva, Collette Quin and Laura Gundrill.
The play takes the form of four 20-minute monologues which present a snapshot of the lives of each of the women who are all waiting.
The characters include Andrea, who is reading a romantic novel while waiting for her online date to arrive at a café.
Next is an unnamed woman waiting outside a rehabilitation centre to visit her husband.
Then there is Fran, who is in hospital undergoing an MRI. Finally, Courtney, a Marilyn Monroe lookalike is waiting for her next big break.
The script is very clever and the production is ideal for being fitted into a small venue requiring minimal sets. This relies on the imagination of the audience to set the scene and makes it possible to keep costs down.
Limelight is the brainchild of Brenda Spilva, Collette Quin and Laura Gundril, all of whom are well known locally in the theatre scene. With their combined theatrical knowledge, they aim to bring live theatre to small regional venues to showcase the work of local actors.
Touring regional towns gives smaller communities a chance to experience live performances in their own area instead of having to travel to major centres. Following the Wilby performance Waiting will be staged at five other small venues over the next week. Details can be found on their website.
