The group also planted trees on Sunday for National Tree Day, when hundreds of community projects were also organised for Australia-wide events.
On Friday students planted three acacias and a yellow box gum. A tree for each of the grades.
Following the tree planting, the students proceeded to Wright’s Lookout area, where they planted 50 grasses indigenous to this area to further enhance the western part of the Nature Reserve.
This is in line with the FOCINR’s environment plan, which aspires to continue establishing flora native to the district and remove all exotic plants.
Some members of Yarrawonga Urban Landcare also participated in this event. They planted a large
number of kangaroo grass tube stock on the northern side of the track. The FOCINR group helped to water these plants.
The FOCINR volunteers were greatly impressed by the students' enthusiasm and diligence and wish to thank them for their efforts. Hopefully, they will be able to look back with pride at their trees and grasses as they and their plantings grow.
As enthusiastic and diligent as they were, the students only had time to plant a portion of the grasses that FOCINR had in stock.
The small band of FOCINR volunteers will finish the task at their usual Friday morning working bees. However, they would be pleased to receive assistance from any locals who would like to participate. If anyone wishes to help, please phone Shaun on 0439 623 416 or Bruce on 5743 1091 to find out details
