Following the first meeting, where 18 ladies attended, the next gathering for those interested in opening an evening branch of CWA will be hosted later in April.
Moira CWA group president Jan James said anyone interested is invited to join the discussion on Monday, April 28 at 6pm, at the North Eastern Hotel’s lounge room.
“Women of all ages and from all walks of life are invited to attend,” Ms James said.
“CWA is made up of women with different talents, some can bake, some enjoy crafts, some advocate for change and others love to volunteer their time helping their community.
“The CWA slogan of care, empower, contribute sums up what we as members strive to do.
“But these earnest words leave out the friendship, fun and the fulfilment that being part of a CWA branch brings.
“CWA provides a sense of belonging, personal development, satisfaction of supporting our local communities, and advocates on behalf of them.”
There are various state subcommittees, including:
- Creative arts
- Social issues
- International and community support
- Agriculture/Environment and
- Communications
These provide members with the opportunity to share their expertise and keep fellow members informed on different topics.
“Each year we have a country of study and this year it’s Sri Lanka and the product of study is industrial hemp,” Ms James said.
“Our theme this year is sharing knowledge for a secure and sustainable future.
“We hope to see as many as possible come along on April 28 to hear firsthand the work CWA does in our local communities.”
