This group of young adults have had almost all events cancelled over the last three years due to Covid, so it was a great opportunity for the school community to come together for an exciting night of formalities and fun.
The Debs all looked stunning in their white ball dresses, and they were partnered by 22 very handsome young men.
Master of Ceremonies for the night Chris O’Neill introduced the Debutantes and partners to Acting regional SEAL Damien Keel, Senior Campus principal Joanne McCarthy and an appreciative audience of family and friends, while sharing the Debs and partners hopes and aspirations for their very bright futures.
They then proceeded to dance a slow rhythm foxtrot, and a progressive jive before finishing off with an upbeat finale to Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl. The Debs and partners were taught the dances over six weeks of lessons from local dancing star Alan Mason.
Following some brief speeches, the Debs and partners then asked a significant person in their life to take to the dancefloor with them to complete the formal part of the evening. The stage was then handed over to Me and The Girl who had the dancefloor full of enthusiastic guest for the rest of the evening.
Organisers of the night Kate Forge and Carolyn O'Dwyer were really pleased with how successful the night was and congratulated the Debs and partners for being such a fun group of people to deal with.
“We really enjoy being able to provide the environment for the young adults to perform in a formal setting and develop a new skillset by learning to dance,” Kate said.
“It is quite a transformation over the six weeks of dance lessons.
“They have been fantastic,” added Carolyn.
“We have had a lot of fun with them. Covid has affected many of the important social interactions for these kids, but they are so resilient – our community should be very proud of them all.”
Organisers would like to thank Leanne Keel and Tim Phillips from Yarrawonga College P-12 and the following local businesses - ClubMulwala, Judd’s Mensland, Blooms Florist, Midland Fresh, and Waratah Images – for helping make the event a success.
