A spear lily, one of the many plants in the garden, is flowering for the first time.
The flower is an Australian native, used as food by Indigenous Australians.
Spear lily or Doryanthus palmeri is endemic to coastal areas in south-eastern Queensland and northern NSW, but locals can now enjoy them at Rokeby.
One of the several specimens planted 10 years ago has now produced a massive red flower spike.
The flowers will be displayed during the Open Garden, at 500 Upper Goulburn Rd, Tallarook, from October 21 to October 22, 10am to 4.30pm.
Guests can also enjoy coffee, lunch boxes and local wines while viewing the plants and flowers at the Open Garden.
Catering proceeds will support the Tallarook Tarts, Tallarook’s community arts group.
