Heaps of hunters turn up

Hundreds descended upon Edis Park last week for a chance at getting some chocolate goodness and a picture with the Easter Bunny,
And no-one left disappointed.
More than 300 people turned out for the second ever Kyabram Easter Egg last Wednesday night, a turnout so large is even surprised organisers.
Rotary club president Paddy Turner said he was absolutely thrilled with the show of community support for the event, even if it was a little bigger than planned.
“It was just an absolutely fantastic response,” he said.

Yes? No? Maybe? Opinion divided on whether Kyabram should shift shires
Current and former Campaspe Shire councillors have weighed in on the proposal of moving Kyabram, Wyuna, Stanhope, Girgarre and Rushworth out of Campaspe and into the City of Greater Shepparton.
Their thoughts come two weeks after councillor Adrian Weston flagged the notion at a special council meeting.
Cr Weston said with a council election and upcoming review of the shire’s ward system set for next year, the time was right for the community to discuss the possibility.
He said the shire’s eastern towns would benefit from a greater rate payer burden and not competing with Echuca for tourism and funding.
However, his ideas have not been warmly received by Kyabram-Deakin ward councillors Neil Pank Hurst and Carol Howell.

Sherman era at Bombers starts with hard-fought Good Friday win
Kyabram started the new season with a win but had to earn it against an enthusiastic Tatura side under lights at Kyabram last Friday.
While Kyabram was never headed on the scoreboard, the Bulldogs were still in the game until the last 15 minute when the class of new Kyabram coach Justin Sherman, evergreen Chris Atkins and recruit Bill Burstin along with teenager Connor Cowley, who all nailed vital goals, ended the cheeky challenge from a team topped to struggle this season after an exodus of key players.
The Bombers were just 13 points up at three-quarter-time after Tatura had kicked five third quarter goals to three, but Sherman’s side ran out the game strongly with five goals to two in the last term, which delivered a 31-point win.
The Bombers’ newcomers all did well at times.
New coach Sherman showed he is a class act, rotating from the midfield into the forward where he provided vital nip and some late goals that sealed Tatura’s fate.

Stately Brolgas join Fauna Park ranks
The Kyabram Fauna Park is the proud new home of two Brolgas.
The Brolgas came to the park from Serendip Sanctuary at Lara, near Geelong, which is run by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The four and a quarter long drive from Lara last week was a long trip for the birds, but they travelled well.
Their feathers were a little ruffled, but they were quickly replaced as they stuck their heads out of the box for the first time on their arrival at Kyabram.
Kyabram Fauna Park manager Rob Pope was surprised at how well they travelled and due to the fact that they are an endangered species in Victoria thought they would have to be treated very softly.

Katsu comes to Ky
Among this year’s new teaching staff at the Kyabram Secondary College is former Japanese teacher Katsu Michi Ito (pronounced Cat-su-mitch-ee).
He is at the school for about one month.
Katsu, as his friends call him, taught maths in the city of Chiba at the Nanatsugidai Junior High School. He retired from teaching last year and spent 10 months in London afterwards to study English.
Katsu says the study of English has assisted him greatly while in England and Australian and in further travels to Europe and New York.
Katsu is being billeted with a family in Tongala and has come to Kyabram Secondary College to study implemented curriculum as he visits other countries.

Ky and Stuhly blitz Echuca
Kyabram got their forward line functioning reasonably smoothly at Echuca on Saturday with the handsome return of a crushing 10 goal victory.
Coach Chris Stuhldreier did the finishing off work for his new-look side as the Bombers romped home 20.14 to 11.11 against the team which embarrassed them in last year’s preliminary final.
Stuhldreier aged 11 goals in the victory and even missed several, which would have made it a more embarrassing scoreline for the home side.
The ability to move the ball quickly and decisively into Kyabram’s forward line – unlike the previous week against Tongala – was a big factor on Kyabram’s win.
Kyabram’s on-ballers and centreline players again got first use of the Sherrin and the team’s forwards, particularly Stuhldreier, had a field day.

Further $25,000 approved for lake scheme
A further $25,000, to be used for the construction of a caretaker’s residence and kiosk, has been granted to the Committee of Management of the Lake Development Association.
The additional $25,000 grant take total finance allocated by both State and Commonwealth Governments to $60,000, bringing the total for the project in hand to the $80,000 mark.
Lake development secretary, Mr John Pilley said through Mr Eddie Hann, MLA of Rodney, the Minister for local government, the Hon. A. J, Hunt, MLC had advised the $25,000 for a caretaker’s residence and kiosk had been approved.
This followed a deputation last week, by Mr Pilley, the caretaker, Mr Gary Major and the Tourn Council Engineer, Mr C. L. Godfrey, to the local government Department.
The Lake Development Committee had previously applied for some $51,000 grant money from the Commonwealth government.

Season young, but signs are there…
The GVL season is still innocently young, and no doubts surprises will occur before it’s all over.
But definite signs have emerged in the two rounds played so far.
And in my crystal ball it’s Euroa the early premiership favourite with Kyabram, Shepparton and United the main challengers.
Possibly Echuca and Lemnos can be squeezed into this classification.
Mooroopna, despite the fact they will probably notch their third straight win tomorrow, still have to prove themselves against tougher opposition before they can even think in terms of final dives or premierships.
