On Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, the local group will host its 32nd Annual Woodworking Show at the Multi-Purpose Pavilion in the Shepparton Showgrounds, drawing enthusiasts from far and wide.
Why do people travel vast distances to attend?
Simply put, GV Woodworkers always nails its program.
Attendees can witness and learn from 52 of the finest wood crafters in resin pouring, whittling, band sawing, knife and tool sharpening, pyrography and more.
Meanwhile, over 100 wooden items are available to browse and buy, including merchandise, furniture and children’s toys.
“It’s a great opportunity for members of the public to stock up on early Christmas presents,” GV Woodworkers president Chris Harvey said.
“And we’ve got multiple people selling wood supplies and a selection of exotic timber.”
Chipping in on the day’s festivities are various food trucks, volunteers selling raffle tickets and entertainment galore.
A standout is a one-off performance by a Shepparton ukulele band while a member of GV Woodworkers crafts ukuleles downstage.
“It’s something we’ve never had before at our show,” Mr Harvey said.
Speaking of firsts, the Australian Scroll Saw Biennial Exhibition will be held as part of the show.
While there’s plenty to see and do, Mr Harvey encouraged people to support GV Woodworkers by learning about their work, talking to members and inquiring about joining if interested.
“We welcome all new members, especially younger people, because we want GV Woodworkers to continue doing the work that we do,” he said.
“It’s not only woodwork but the work we do for local charities, like donating up to 500 wooden toys to FamilyCare each year at Christmas, who then distribute them to those in need.
“We’re a local club that cares about the community, and there’s always an opportunity to help out.”
GV Woodworkers’ 32nd Annual Woodworking Show is on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, from 9am to 4pm, at the Multi-Purpose Pavilion, located in the Shepparton Showgrounds, High St, Shepparton.
