Campaspe Shire Mayor Rob Amos encouraged everyone in the community to join a clean-up crew.
“Community groups, businesses and individuals across our region have done a fantastic job organising Clean Up events. We have continued to support these events by providing essential resources,” he said.
“As always, there’s fantastic uptake from the local schools and businesses in the region, who support the Clean Up initiative through the dedicated Clean Up Australia schools and business days.”
Campaspe Shire Council director of sustainability Michael Sharp said it’s an excellent initiative for Australia, and there are fantastic benefits for the shire.
“With the community’s support, we work towards stopping litter from ending up in our public spaces, bushland and waterways. People are less likely to litter if there’s less rubbish around on the ground,” he said.
“Rubbish that is thrown away, even in small amounts, can still do great damage to our native wildlife and affects the appearance of our neighbourhoods.”
Clean Up Australia will send starter kits, including bags, gloves and other resources, to those who register to host an event.
For more information on events being held, visit the Clean Up Australia Day website and search your postcode to join an event.
