The much-loved annual Lake Mulwala Rod Run is set to deliver another outstanding weekend, with registration on Friday at Mulwala Water Ski Club.
President of Northern Suburbs Street Rods (NSSR) Michael Greche said entrants are looking forward to being in Yarrawonga Mulwala and hoping for fine weather.
But he is adamant if anything like reasonable weather prevails, “we’ll certainly have at least 450 hot rods”.
“We’ll have between 450 and 500,” Mick predicted.
“There’s an amazing number of cars from Queensland this year.”
Locals and residents will see hot rods of all colours and car-makes up to the year 1975. The program starts at 5.00pm at the ski club where there will be a sausage sizzle and two live bands.
After a cruise to Tocumwal Saturday morning, the colour will return to Yarrawonga with a street parade in Belmore Street, for hot rod entrants only, from 4.00pm through the evening.
Sunday morning will kick off at the Yarrawonga Foreshore with a breakfast for entrants at 7.00am, with the public welcome from 9.00am via a gold coin donation for subsequent distribution to three charities.
A hive of activity will take place on the Sunday morning, including a DJ, at least 50 stalls at the foreshore market and a SES demonstration at 11.00am, a charity auction at 12 noon and a Top 10 presentation at 1.30pm.
The poster car featured on this year’s memorabilia by the NSSR is the 1923 green-coloured T-Bucket of Richie Mercer from Sydney.
“Richie has been associated with us for 30 years. He and his wife Maree are wonderful supporters of NSSR,” Mick said.
The NSSR President said club members have greatly appreciated the warm welcome provided to them by local residents and visitors.
“I was just so proud and happy everybody was so welcoming to us, and we look forward to this weekend,” Mick said.
“Our members were simply ecstatic with the reception by locals.
“Nothing could have been achieved without Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism – Noel and Helen and their staff – who have been so obliging and terrific.
“We certainly appreciate Mulwala Water Ski Club and the Yarrawonga Holiday Park for their support too.”
