Greater Shepparton City Council’s Visitor Experience Innovation Grants Program aims to support innovative projects that enhance visitor experiences in the region.
The program was established in 2020 as part of the economic response to COVID-19.
At their monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 17, councillors voted unanimously to confirm the two applicants in round four of the grants.
They were the Parklake Hotel, with $10,000 to install four electric vehicle charging stations, and Elsewhere at SAM, with $6000 going towards an outdoor café.
Each of the recipients will match the grants provided by council.
“This Visitor Experience Innovation funding has proven extremely popular in the past and has assisted several Greater Shepparton businesses to improve their offerings and install creative and unique additions for visitors,” Mayor Shane Sali said.
“Anything council can do to improve the region’s visitor economy and grow visitor experiences is a huge win for the economic development of our region.”
Cr Geoff Dobson moved the motion confirming the two recipients, saying the money went towards building Greater Shepparton’s reputation as a visitors’ destination.
“Both of these, I think, are well worth it. Both are very innovative programs,” he said.
Deputy Mayor Anthony Brophy seconded the motion and said the aim was to help keep more visitors staying longer and spending more.
“We need to present a visitor experience so that not only do they enjoy their stay, but they tell others, and they also return as well, and these grants are innovative, and they provide an opportunity there. Both are deserving,” he said.
Cr Sam Spinks welcomed the opportunity for council to support such programs.
“Really, all we do is provide a little bit of money, and it provides such a wonderful outcome to our community,” she said.
“These two ideas are really wonderful, and I’m looking forward to seeing them come to life.”
