Last week the Lakers announced that A Grade Captain, Reid Clarke, will take over the coaching reigns from Michael Drake and be appointed as senior coach of the YMCC.
This is an exciting step forward for the Lakers as the home-grown product has blossomed in the captaincy role and now looks to cultivate even greater success as club coach across all senior grades.
Not wanting the grass to grow under its feet, the Lakers also announced, in a very big week in local cricket, that ClubMulwala will be the club’s Premium Sponsor for the next three seasons.
ClubMulwala CEO Alan Rowe said the club is very proud to be a major partner with the Lakers.
"We are extremely excited to continue our relationship with Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club,” Alan said.
“The past success of the Lakers has been fantastic and we only hope that it continues.
“We congratulate Reid Clarke on his appointment as coach, and we are excited to see how the Lakers go under his watch.
“We love the fact, and very much enjoy watching the young players given opportunities to play good cricket, it is a fantastic community club and we are all about the growth and success within our community.”
Clarke is looking forward to developing more local talent, following the tried-and-true plan that he himself followed.
"Our juniors are the future of our club and we’ll be looking to grow junior participation for girls and boys,” he said.
“We are keen to get moving and set high goals for our playing group.
“While the club wants to not only have continued success in the W&DCA, but to also provide a pathway for girls and grow numbers to field teams in junior and senior competitions over the next 8-10 years.
“It is exciting times for the Lakers, and I am proud to be given this opportunity,” he said.
Clarke also acknowledged the contribution by ClubMulwala.
“As the only cricket club in the local border district, having the support of our local businesses gives us confidence and pride as we represent our local community.
“The show of faith by ClubMulwala by coming on as a Premium Sponsor gives everyone involved at the YMCC a terrific boost.
“ClubMulwala provides many local organisations generous support, and we are extremely pleased to keep developing our relationship.”
The YMCC Annual General Meeting is being held on Sunday, July 17 and it looks like more positive announcements will be on the cards as the club is calling for dynamic candidates to join the committee.
