One morning, while enjoying a coffee at McDonald's Yarrawonga with her mum Pam, Keira took the initiative and asked the manager if she could have a job. A month later, her dedication paid off as she started working part-time at McDonald’s on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Keira of Mulwala has quickly become a beloved member of the McDonald’s Yarrawonga team. Managers and staff have praised Keira for her bubbly personality, kindness and the positive energy she brings to the workplace.
Customers are often greeted by her bright smile, and it's clear that Keira’s presence has a positive impact on everyone she interacts with.
Employment at McDonald’s marks a significant step in Keira’s personal growth, skill development and social inclusion.
By working in a real-world setting, Keira has the opportunity to take ownership of tasks, make decisions and solve problems on her own.
These experiences help her gain confidence, fostering a strong sense of accomplishment and self-worth.
She connects with a diverse range of people, further developing her communication and social skills.
The experience has played a key part in enhancing her overall well-being and integration into the community.
“I really like the job and everyone here,” 38-year-old Keira said.
Operations Manager Beau Knight said McDonald’s Yarrawonga love having Keira come to work every Thursday.
“She always brings a smile, and you can't help but smile when you interact with Keira – she’s a local favourite and a highlight for our customers when they visit,” he said.
“We are really proud of what Keira does, and we are grateful we are able to give her an opportunity to shine.”
Keira’s employment also helps promote a more inclusive and accepting community according to her carer Kath Hemphill.
“It’s a reminder that with initiative, support, and a positive attitude, individuals with disabilities can achieve great things and make a meaningful contribution to society,” Kath said.
