Minister invited to Kialla West Primary School to see need for overpass

State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has invited Roads and Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne to Shepparton to see the pedestrian crossing at Kialla West Primary School in action.

The school and political figures in the region have been advocating for a major safety upgrade of the crossing for years following a two-vehicle collision involving a school family that injured a student in September 2018.

The Coalition committed to funding an upgrade before the last Victorian election, but was not elected to hold power at Spring St, with the Labor Party not making any commitments.

In parliament this week, Ms Lovell said there had been no meaningful safety upgrades of the crossing to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers since the collision.

“It has been close to four and a half years since that horrific collision at the Kialla West Primary School crossing and it remains just as dangerous, with little done to make it safe for students, staff, parents and motorists,” Ms Lovell said.

“The new minister needs to get on with the job of fixing the Kialla West crossing and I invite her to join me at the end of a school day so she can understand the dangers of the crossing and the need to make it safe for all that use it each day.”
