Plans for 1300 new social and affordable homes have been outlined, as well as 70 dwellings to support flood-affected areas in Rochester, Shepparton and Seymour.
The regions receiving the first 1000 social and affordable homes were announced, including 162 homes in Loddon, 140 in Goulburn and 68 in Mallee.
A Victorian Government spokesperson said over 30 regional local government areas would see social and affordable homes built under the plan.
The number of homes earmarked for Campaspe, Gannawarra and other LGAs could not be confirmed before construction, they said, as Homes Victoria was still conducting community consultations.
Funding for the social homes will come from the $1 billion Regional Housing Fund, with construction on at least 180 new and upgraded homes under way.
“Our Regional Housing Fund will help give Victorians a safe, secure and modern home — no matter where they live,” Housing Minister Harriet Shing said.
Twenty of the 70 dwellings for flood-affected areas are due for completion by the end of next year, with further project and location information expected in the future.
Incoming changes to a system where property developers contribute to funding for local infrastructure in areas where they build more homes were also flagged, with a report expected in March next year.
The government said it would make it easier to subdivide blocks, and has slashed stamp duty on off-the-plan townhouses and units statewide as well.
“As a regional Victorian, there’s no better place to live — that’s why we’re making sure more young Victorians and families can get the chance to live here, too,” Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said.
