Meyerene Geldenhuys and Daisy Mejos completed their naturalisation process at the Edward River Council organised event.
The ceremony took place at the Deniliquin Town Hall.
It was opened by Edward River Council Mayor Ash Hall and Federal Senator Perin Davey, with apologies for non-attendance from Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley and NSW Member for Murray Helen Dalton.
The officials welcomed and made an introduction to proceedings before speaking about the opportunity for the participants to affirm loyalty to Australia, celebrate the meaning of Australian Citizenship and the decision to become Australian citizens.
The two applicants made their Australian citizenship affirmation pledge successfully, in an emotional moment, in front of around 30 attendees including friends and family.
Everyone in attendance then sang two verses of the Australian National Anthem.
A morning tea was then offered to the new citizens and their guests.
Meyerene Geldenhuys is originally from South Africa and came to Australia, and Deniliquin, eight years ago.
Already in Australia waiting for her at the time were her children Lourens Geldenhuys and Lourene Liebenberg, and their families.
Daisy Mejos is from the Phillipines and arrived in Australia in 2015.
Originally in Melbourne for four years, Daisy also lived on the Gold Coast for four years before coming to Deniliquin in July 2023 where she took a job with Mainland Finance.
During the morning tea, there was much discussion about the impact Daisy and Meyerene have made in their new community, whether it be through their careers or volunteer and social club roles.
The celebration of their official achievement as Australian citizens on Friday officially marked the end of their process to receive the privilege of becoming an Australian citizen, which can take many years.
