Over 60 people attended St. Johns Hall in Corowa for the launch of the book; ‘A Journey under Grace’, Subtitled, ‘Finding Faith in Rural Australia 1939 to 1971 and Beyond’.
Hailing from Savernake, David spent considerable time, mostly over the Covid years, preparing the book ‘A Journey under Grace’, Subtitled, ‘Finding Faith in Rural Australia 1939 to 1971 and Beyond.
David outlined how he grew up on Savernake Station in the 1940s and 1950s and loved rural life.
His memoir recounts his outward journey through life, which is intertwined with his inner spiritual journey of searching for God`s purpose for his life.
He said this makes his very ordinary story interesting as his career moved from a farmer to minister/pastor to conservationist and to writer.
He felt his book could be read in three ways. Firstly, looking at the photos throughout the book, many of which tell a story in themselves.
Secondly, reading certain chapters that interest the reader, for example, hitchhiking and bushwalking in NZ and Australia in the 1960s.
Thirdly, taking the time to read right through the book and absorbing the rich vein of spiritual nuggets of wisdom discovered in all the ups and downs of life.
David explained how the front cover of the book says it all. A picture of three walkers or pilgrims walking the rail trail between Wandiligong and Beechworth during the annual 90km Celtic Walk.
David said it sums the whole theme of the book; “living a life under God`s unmerited Grace as life-long pilgrims”.
