The event will provide an opportunity for the community to come together and pay their respects to those who have served and sacrificed for the country.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 10:30am to ensure they have time to gather and participate in the ceremony.
The Yarrawonga Mulwala Sub Branch service will include the sound of the Last Post and Reveille, a recital of ‘In Flanders Field’, the national anthems of Australia and New Zealand, a minute silence at 11am before a flyover by the Airtourer Association at 30 seconds past 11, a guest speaker, addresses by college captains and an opportunity to lay a wreath.
Yarrawonga member of the Airtourer Association Tony Self said that the flyover was well received by the community during Remembrance Day commemorations last year so the group will be performing it again in a slightly bigger manner.
“Talking to the RSL, they were rapt with what we did last year but we are wanting to get more involved. This year we will have between 11 and 13 aircrafts take part in the flyover,” Mr Self said.
“Members of the Airtourer Association will arrive on Friday, November 8 with people coming from Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria with our official practice to be on November 9 and 10.
“We will be flying over at 30 seconds past 11 when there is silence.
“As we did last year, we will be flying from Tungamah to the war memorial in Mulwala, flying over Belmore Street, over the bridge to the memorial in Mulwala before turning right over the lake.”
Remembrance Day is observed on November 11 each year to mark the armistice signed in 1918, ending World War I. It is a day of reflection, a moment to honour those who have served in the armed forces and to remember those who never returned home.
The red poppy has become the symbol of Remembrance Day, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during times of conflict.
Take a moment of silence and to reflect at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month to honour those who served and sacrificed for our country.
