Piper Laws from Yarrawonga Manufactured Housing (YMH) has walked away from the Master Builders Association of NSW’s 2023 Excellence in Construction, Safety & Apprenticeship Awards as the ‘Apprentice of the Year’.

The night held in Sydney on November 4 was filled with sparkling stars and jaw-dropping accomplishments, where the best of the best came together to celebrate their fantastic work in the construction industry.
Judges said that Piper stood out firmly among the first year nominees as she has shown drive, passion, and enthusiasm for her role.
“She supports all other team members, boosts morale, and strives for perfection in the male-dominated team,” judges said.
“She demonstrates very high-quality administrative skills and goes above and beyond to make herself available to travel long distances to have the opportunity to work on-site and learn from senior trades.
“Piper’s enthusiasm for knowledge and perfection in all aspects of her career has her undertaking more advanced jobs than other apprentices at the same level.
“What is most impressive is that Piper had been nominated for the Sarah Lloyd Scholarship in 2022 and the Bunnings Women in Trades Award in 2023.
“Piper is a big believer in ‘measure twice, cut once’ and is precise and meticulous in her work, as there is little room for error in the carpentry fields.”

When asked by the YMH team about how she felt about receiving the award, Piper said she was shocked and a little taken aback.
“I’m blown away! It is amazing to see my hard work and dedication recognized,” Piper said.
“Winning this award has lit a fire under me to keep improving my skills during my apprenticeship. It is humbling to know that the YMH team values my skills and drive!”
The YMH Mulwala construction management team Dwayne Blackwell, Damian Cook and Dan Lacey along with Piper parents, Dean and Melissa Laws attended the evening to support and celebrate her achievements.
