A 31-year-old Corowa man has been arrested for driving on an expired license and under the influence of drugs in Tower Street last Friday night.
The driver failed a roadside drug test, which was tested positive to methamphetamines.
A secondary roadside test also gave a positive result, and a sample of his saliva was obtained and was sent for analysis.
Police will wait for the results from the saliva analysis before taking further action.
Anyone with information about drugs in town can call Sgt Marshall confidentially on 6932 2899 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Bangerang Liquor Accord
Craig Waldron from IGA Supermarket in Corowa has been appointed new chair of the Bangerang Liquor Accord.
As determined by the Liquor Accord, Corowa’s alcohol-free zone is bounded by Honour Avenue, Riesling St, Queen St and takes in all of Edward St and Bridge St.
Sergeant Steve Marshall of Corowa Police said unless patrons were drinking inside a licensed premise, it was not permitted to drink alcohol inside the alcohol-free zone.
Drug and Alcohol affected driving
Over the school holidays and Easter weekend, police will be focussed on alcohol and drug affected driving.
“In a town the size of Corowa, there is no reason to drink and drive,” Sgt Marshall said.
“Most of our licensed premises have courtesy buses for you to be driven home and there is a taxi service.
“For the younger punters; try walking, the town limits are only a matter of a few kilometres.”
Caught and charged
A 44-year-old Corowa man has returned a positive roadside breath test on Vera St at 8.30pm on Friday April 4. He was arrested and taken back to the station where a breath analysis showed a reading of 0.126.
Later that night a 78-year-old Corowa man was stopped in Hume St for a random breath test and recorded 0.116. Both men are off to court to hear their fate.
Calling the police
Sgt Marshall says if you need to police urgently, call OOO.
“So often, people call our station when we are out or busy and the phone diverts to Albury, which is also busy,” he said.
“If it is urgent ring 000, and you will get someone 100 per cent of the time.”
