Powerline fault halts traffic

A powerline fault caused wonderment and a halt to both vehicle and foot traffic along Belmore Street on Monday as a powerline across the main street sparked. Emergency services were quick on the scene to block off traffic before Powercor could rectify the issue.

Locals and visitors to Yarrawonga were led to believe they were hearing fireworks at midday on Monday when a powerline across Belmore Street began sparking, halting both foot and vehicle traffic.

The powerline, which stretches from approximately the front of Wingates Intersport to Yarrawonga Newsagency, began sparking on the southerly side of the main street after an insulation fault.

Locals were quick to divert traffic before Police were on scene whilst the Yarrawonga CFA diverted foot traffic to streets adjacent to the main street.

Powercor soon attended to cut off power and investigate the circumstances of the incident.
