Only three seasons previous the Yarrawonga Mulwala Little Athletics Club was looking at folding due to lack of interest and being unable to recruit a core committee to launch a season start, and as a result would have seen club equipment redistributed out of town.

Currently the club is enjoying a passionate and driven committee to help ensure athletics is alive and well and on offer to the family’s and kids of the community.
Athletics is an important foundation to all sports and a valuable stepping stone to future sporting option to children.
The club for the 2020/21 split season recommenced on Monday February 1 with the start of the school term.
Membership numbers are sitting at a very healthy 94 and the committee is looking for this to continue into next 2021/22 season.
With only 4 club meets left (weather and covid restrictions permitting) the last night of competition will be Monday, March 22 for kids to keep adding to their personal best achievement count which is what it’s all about and the main focus and goal for the young athletes.
The final medal presentation and family night will be held Monday, March 29. This is where medals are presented based on Personal Best achievements, rather than records or place getters.
It’s all about “being your best”.
Due to this week’s meet being cancelled for Victorian state lockdown, the “Coles Round” will be moved to next Monday, February 22.
As Coles is a major sponsor to Little Athletics Australia, kids are encouraged to dress up supermarket themed or wear something red.
Previous current format to weekly meets will continue as advised and updated by Little Athletics Victoria in regard to Covid safe restriction and Covid safe procedures.
A number of events have been cancelled this season; this included region track and field championships that were to be held in Shepparton last weekend, where 5 athletes registered to represent the club.
Relays are scheduled to be held on March 28; like everyone YMLA are waiting on updates to inform the club if this event will go ahead.
If you think your child would be interested in taking part of a relay team (under 9 to under 16) please contact the club ASAP so teams can be arranged, all of course if covid restrictions enable to compete.
With so many sports being limited due to covid social distancing rules and mental health taking its toll, something so simple as being outdoors running around with your family is more important than ever.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Little Athletics needs continual support for it to continue to grow and move forward, especially in future uncertain Covid times.
The current 20/21 committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the local businesses for their kind donations; the fantastic hands on helpful parents getting involved week in week out, the club can’t run without your help, but most of all the awesome athletes, doing their best each week, displaying good sportsmanship and supporting each other.
Please keep following YMLA on Facebook for more updates and information.
The club will be holding a 2021 AGM where they will be looking for new and existing parents to step up and get on board to launch the future 2021/22 season.
