Baddaginnie Community Inc committee member Ulrike Currie is the driving force behind the event.
The aim is to encourage social connection and a chance for locals and visitors alike to sample and purchase a range of wines, food and other products from a number of local producers.
“We are really excited to be welcoming so many local businesses to the Jubilee Hall for this event,” Ulrike said.
“We’re hoping that we will get lots of people from Baddaginnie, Benalla, Euroa, Glenrowan, Mansfield and all the other towns in the area to come along.”
Eleven local businesses have signed up to participate in the event:
- Baddaginnie Run Wines
- Baileys of Glenrowan Wines and Fortifieds
- Taminick Cellars & Black Dog Brewery
- John Gehrig Wines
- Kooyonga Wines and Crystal Gin
- Everlasting Floral Studio
- Samaria Rose Farm
- Little Cedar Farmhouse Goat Cheese
- Pavlos Catering
- Brezel Mädle
- Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program — Benalla P-12 College
The event is hosted by Baddaginnie Community Inc, funded by Benalla’s Social Inclusion Action Group.
It is supported by Benalla Rural City Council and the Victorian Government.
Entry to the event is free, but visitors are encouraged to make a gold coin donation for the chance to win great lucky door prizes.
The Baddaginnie Jubilee Hall was recently renovated, with new flooring, a new roof, solar panels and new toilet facilities.
For Ulrike and the committee, it’s been years in the making.
“We had lots of problems with the toilets, sometimes they would keep running and all our tank water would be lost,” Ulrike said.
“Benalla council completely replaced them, which was great. We now have everything new, and it means we can use the hall for gatherings and meetings and also hire it out for other people to use.”
The first event in the newly refurbished hall was a community pizza night.
“It was wonderful,” Ulrike said.
“The Social Inclusion Action Group funded it, and we had a movie and some pizzas.
“And we assumed that we would get a few locals and children so, we ordered 50 pizzas, of course, it wasn’t enough.
“We probably had 80 or 90 adults there, and I don't know how many kids.
“But it was a success and that inspired us to do another community event.
“We’re really hoping that local people will see what amazing produce is available locally and to support these world-class producers because we are really lucky to have them on our doorstep here in the north-east.”
Sip, Savour and Socialise will be held on Friday, May 9 from 5pm to 8pm.
The Baddaginnie Jubilee Hall is available for hire for parties, gatherings, classes and workshops.
