That’s why when Miss Crawford announced a 24-hour bake, it was received with a ‘well, that’s Tegan’.
Being the mastermind and master baker behind Tegan’s Custom Cakes, Valentine’s Day is traditionally one of her busiest days of the year, and that’s without throwing in a pop-up cupcake stall at Shepparton Marketplace the day before.
To get through the hoards of expected orders, Miss Crawford planned to be up before the crack of dawn at 3am Saturday, working through to 3am on Sunday only to be up at 6am.
Miss Crawford said she had only one mission — to beat last year’s number of cupcakes.
With ingredients of pure gumption, a bit of talent and a whole lot of drive, her recipe was set for a success.
Beating last year’s record by more than 300, the stall was also a sell-out with three hours to close.
“I was genuinely shocked when we sold out, I thought we’d made more than enough,” she said.
“I didn’t actually count in the end but I made more than 1300 cupcakes and around 250 cookies and brownies altogether.
“There were lines all day, we easily had over 100 customers which was incredible.”
Like the business-minded woman she is, the 24-hour day phased her so little she’s gearing up to give it another crack come Easter.
She said the time baking with the help of a friend was a “fun challenge” with only one possible downfall, the heat.
“On a 34°C day, buttercream and heat don’t really mix, so the airconditioner was on full blast,” she said with a laugh.
“It went really well, I’m stoked to be able to give it another go soon.”
