The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a further thunderstorm warning for Wednesday and Thursday and more storms are forecasted to return early next week.
Damaging winds, heavy intense rainfall, and flash flooding have upset some holiday plans, particularly with campers along the Murray River and people in other exposed areas forced to pack up and take shelter or move to higher ground.
The wild weather battered a large part of Victoria on Tuesday, causing flash flooding and widespread power outages.
Almost 3000 homes and businesses were without power through the night, including parts of Yarrawonga and Bundalong, Telford, Tungamah and St James following Tuesday’s storms, according to Powercor’s live outage tracker.
Tungamah had road closures in both directions between Bailey Street and South Road along Devenish Road, due to fallen power lines. Powercor crews were attending the location to conduct repairs Wednesday morning.
The SES across Victoria received 883 calls for help between 9am on Tuesday and 7am on Wednesday, including for fallen trees (359 calls), flooding (252) and building damages (211).
The worst-hit areas were Ballarat and Sebastopol, with Wangaratta, Bendigo and Euroa also bearing the brunt of the deluge. Wangaratta and Benalla received 54mm of rain from the storm.
