Another $15,000 has been added to the pool of funds supporting locals with cancer, thanks to the patrons of the Deni Ute Muster.

For the second consecutive year, Deniliquin Can Assist was the beneficiary of money raised through Whitey’s Ferret Racing at the famed event.
Deniliquin Can Assist president Kellie Crossley said this year’s fundraising tally exceeded last year’s, with volunteers overwhelmed at the support.
“For each race we sell raffle tickets, with the winners then claiming a ferret in the race.
“The winner of that race receives a $200 prize.
“We also run a calcutta, with people able to bid on ferrets to win. The winner receives half the action amount.
“So for the last race on Saturday, the cup race, the auction pool was $2400, which meant the winner got $1200 and Can Assist got $1200.
“We noticed there are some loyal buyers who come back each year, and it was just a lot of fun.”
Mrs Crossley said additional donations were also made throughout the weekend, and that people showed generosity to other Musterers too.
“We have a few people buy $50 worth of raffle tickets and just hand them out to the kids that were there to watch the ferret races.
“There was a lot of support and we were pretty lucky with the weather.

The ferret races grabbed the attention of young and old, helping with the fundraising effort.
All the races attracted huge crowds across Friday and Saturday.
It even captured the attention of Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac, who broadcast live from the Muster on Friday morning and got involved in some early races.
Part of the Cancer Assistance network of NSW, Deniliquin Can Assist was established in 2017.
Its members ensure that community members affected by cancer can be provided with some financial assistance to make their situation a little easier.
The branch is well supported by the community, who donate generously and help with fundraising efforts. All money raised by the group stays local.
