Works to boost road safety

In a step towards greater road safety, works are set to begin on three dangerous black spots in the Moira Shire.

The Moira Shire Council awarded Muckatah-based company O’Loughlin Excavations Pty Ltd (OLEX) a $967,131 contract to undertake works at locations from Cobram to Strathmerton.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the works demonstrate the council's commitment to improving local road safety.

"These critical safety improvements will benefit all road users in our community," Dr Emonson said.

"By addressing these known black spots, we're taking proactive steps to reduce crash risks and create safer journeys for residents and visitors.

“OLEX is a locally based contractor with extensive experience delivering road safety improvements in our shire.

“Their local knowledge and expertise will ensure these crucial upgrades are delivered efficiently and to a high standard."

Upgrades such as improved signage, line marking, sealed shoulders, splitter islands, and electronic speed limit signs will be installed across three locations:

Labuan Rd between the Murray Valley Hwy and Sandmount Rd, Strathmerton.
The intersection of Campbell Rd and Murray Valley Hwy, Cobram.
The intersection of Peach Rd, Healy Rd and Benalla-Tocumwal Rd , Cobram.

Works will begin before the end of March, and are expected to be completed by May, 2025.

The works are funded through the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program, which identified the three locations as priorities in June, 2024.

The Department of Transport and Planning will shortly begin works on the intersection of Labuan Rd and the Murray Valley Hwy. The Department expects these works to be completed by the middle of the year.
