Yarrawonga 15.15.105defeated Wodonga White 3.3.21
Round 12 of the AWJFL saw the little Pigeons take on Wodonga White at Wodonga.
Due to school holidays the team were short on numbers and they took to the field with only 17 players.
However, the boys didn’t let this stop them and they took to the field full of determination and they managed to come away with a 12-goal victory.
The team got out to a great start, kicking 6 goals in the 1st quarter whilst holding Wodonga scoreless.
Bohdi Leonard was on fire kicking 5 goals in the quarter and finishing the game with 6.
Braeden Bramich also played a top game up forward with his strong attack at the footy and some great goal assists.
Lenny Lonergan was gathering possessions at will around the ground and with some great crumbing off the packs he was able to slot through 2 crucial goals.
Declan Martin showed his class playing another great game.
Declan was like a brick wall in the backline early, helping to keep the opposition scoreless in the 1st quarter before he was moved into the ruck where he was then able to give his teammates first use of the ball with some strong ruck work.
Sam Trembath had a huge game, gathering possessions all around and dominating the centre clearances.
Sam also used his great speed to break free from the opposition and bag a couple of excellent running goals.
Using his hard hitting and ferocious attack at the football, Levi Saunders dominated the mid field as he kept the ball moving forward throughout the game, giving the forward line numerous opportunities to score.

Undermanned and undersized the boys were set a simple task, take on the challenge or let it beat you.
Sixteen vs Eighteen was always going to be a tough ask, however the team was having none of that and from the very first bounce to the end they outworked and out ran their opponents.
In tough cold conditions the boys slammed on three unanswered goals to take a 22-point lead into the first break. Woodburn, Mitchell, Wallden and Connell put on a clinic dominating in every facet of the game.
Already playing with two extra men the Raiders decided they would tag Woodburn to nullify his influence on the game but to no affect as he just continued to impose himself on the contest.
The boys continued to roll, press and scrap for every possession to keep themselves in the game, trailing by two points at the break.
The rain arrived at the start of the third quarter turning the game into a war of attrition. Hemphill and Gillies were devastating in defence often outnumbered three to one working themselves into the ground to stop the Raiders attacks dead in their tracks.
Those efforts lifted the boy’s spirits sending belief through the team that they could pull off the impossible.
House and Bartlett kicked a goal each rewarding the efforts of the back six.
Deep into the third quarter Raiders surged forward pumping the ball long in a dangerous attack.
Enter Hugh Mullins with only eyes for the ball, charged out of fullback taking a strong contested mark and belting the ball long and wide off his boot to set the Raiders back on their heels enabling the boys to hold onto their slender two-point lead going into the last change.
Kicking against the wind in the last quarter and the odds stacked against them but the choice was simple, pull off the impossible or roll over and find a reason why they couldn’t.
Raiders started strongly dominating possession kicking the first goal of the last and retaking the lead. Raiders added a further two behinds stretching their lead out to a goal.
Hooper playing his break out game of the season took a couple of telling marks deep in defence settling the game down.
Ryan produced seven repeat efforts in a game defining passage of play. The boys surged the ball forward in a rare attack.
Travelling all the way from France and playing his first ever game, Enzo laid one of the biggest shepards seen in junior football causing the ball to spill, Woodburn swooped on the loose ball and belted it forward.
Crafty forward House worked his player beautifully under the ball and gathered and kicked truly to level the scores.
In a grandstand finish Connell got his hand first to the ball at the ruck contest allowing the Yarrawonga mids to get the clearance and send the ball forward.
Sweating on the nervous Raiders defenders to fumble under pressure McKenna pounced and wobbled one through the big sticks to take a six-point lead with minutes remaining.
Going into full lock down mode the boys were able to hold on and secure a sensational victory.
