A Shepparton man caught driving at more than 150km/h has been fined $925.
Senior Constable Matt Cook of Tatura police said the 26-year-old driver was clocked at 154km/h in a 100km/h zone along Cosgrove-Lemnos Rd at Pine Lodge in the early hours of March 17.
As well as the fine, the man’s driver’s licence was suspended for 12 months, but he will not be made to front court after being given a penalty notice for excessive speed instead.
Sen Constable Cook, who was patrolling the area and pulled the driver over, said it was disappointing to see someone driving dangerously in the same vicinity of an accident that claimed the lives of four people on January 4.
“We don’t get these usually, everyone usually behaves,” he said.
“It’s disappointing, because where I detected it ... was near the intersection where four people passed away.”
With 80 lives lost on Victorian roads so far in 2023 — up 29 per cent from 2022 — Sen Constable Cook had a clear message for drivers who wished to speed.
“Be safe,” he said.
“Detecting people out there going that fast, it’s definitely not on.”
