Tungamah Bowls Club
Midweek Pennant B2s: November 20.
Tunga was at home to Wang/Wareena having a 58 to 49 shot victory, collecting 12 points with one rink going down.
Fortunately, we had enough shots on other two, to get over the line. With only three rinks a big loss by one makes it harder to cover the difference.
Tunga remain is second spot on the ladder and travel to Corowa Civic next game.
We need to be consolidating all teams and ensuring players are eligible as we go into the second round and hopefully another rewarding one.
Weekend Pennant B1s: November 23.
Tungamah were at home to Yarrawonga who agreed to start at 10am to avoid the forecast hot afternoon.
All players were grateful when play finished just after lunch. Tunga won three rinks, 70 to 50 shots so collected all 14 points to be in fourth spot on the ladder, Moyhu and Myrtleford have a massive point lead so need to keep on track with winning performances.
Well done to all players, travel down the track to St James next.
Weekend Pennant A3s: November 23.
Travelled to YMGCR, who also agreed to start play at 10am.
Tunga won three rinks convincingly and lost one rink by just one shot getting 16 points for a 90 to 69 victory.
This puts us in fourth spot on the ladder a long way behind the leaders, but we are in the four.
Beechworth is the start of the new round, hopefully teams can be consolidated, as we try to climb the ladder.
Players, skips in particular, need to be aware and more courteous when playing Pennant.
It is different to social bowls and practise; most players like to concentrate; they watch the play and know where their team’s bowls are.
Skips talk to players when necessary, encourage, advise and support but not loudly, it is only that rink you are concerned about not telling everyone playing what’s happening on your rink hence disturbing other skips and players from both sides around you.
This goes for all clubs and divisions playing competitive bowls.
Yarrawonga Bowls

YMGCR Bowls
Midweek Pennant
The A1s travelled to Wodonga last Tuesday, and Wodonga is always a difficult assignment at home. So it proved; final scores Wodonga winning 76 shots and 14 points to YMGCR 53 shots and 0 points.
Ian Febey (L), Peter Lidgerwood (2), Gary Presnell (3), and Ray Irvine (S), were in the game all day and went down, in the finish, by the barest of margins 25 shots to Wodonga 26 shots.
The A1s are now precariously placed in 7th place, and next week face another away game at Benalla.
The A2s were also away last Tuesday, playing Moira at Moira. After the 63rd end it was the home side who won the day; Moira 63 shots and 11 points to YMGCR 58 shots and 3 points.
Winning for YMGCR were Tony Durkin (L), Judy Leeson (2), Cliff Morton (3), and Allan Goudge (S), 21 shots to Moira 19 shots. Securing a tie, and one valuable point were Doug McTier (L), Vicki Withers (2), Marcia McGrillen (3), and Ian Keat (S), who drew with their opposition 21 shots to Moira 21 shots.
The A2s are now in 5th place and next week travel again, this time to Dederang.
Wednesday Social Bowls
Last Wednesday saw 20 bowlers participate in the weekly game of Wednesday Social, where the format was 20 ends of three bowl pairs played over one game.
After proceedings were completed, it was Les Balfour and Rob Lidgerwood who finished in first place sharing the $80 first prize and a drink card each.
In second place and taking home $40 were Tony Durkin and Robyn Forge. The losing rink consolation prize of $20 went to Noel Millar and Neville Coleman.
The first lucky number prize of $20 went to Kurt Bleckwhel, and the second lucky number prize of $10 went to Mick Reilly.
Weekend Pennant
Those A1 players that travelled to Wodonga last Tuesday, would have experienced a case of déjà vu when they boarded the bus on Saturday for the trip again to Wodonga.
As with the midweek result, it was a loss for YMGCR who went down 68 shots and 2 points to Wodonga 90 shots and 16 points. The A1s are now, unenviably, in 7th place on the ladder, a position where every shot, and every point, is vital to the season’s overall outcome.
Securing two of those vital points on Saturday were Colin Withers (L), who had something of a red-letter day, Peter Lidgerwood (2), Michael Vaughan (3), and Ray Irvine (S), who won 23 shots to Wodonga 16 shots.
The A1s host Kiewa next Saturday at the Golf Club, in what is a must-win encounter.
The A3s played at home on Saturday where they entertained Tungamah. With the forecast predicted for 38 degrees the game was an early start at 10.00am.
The early kick off didn’t agree with the home side and it was Tungamah 90 shots and 16 points to YMGCR 69 shots and 2 points. Winning for the Golf Club and grabbing those vital two points were Doug Wheeler (L), Les Wilson (2), Vic Brincat (3), and Neil Loveridge (S), who won 18 shots to Tungamah 17 shots.
Vic and Neil are having a stellar season and are proving to be YMGCRs, ‘Mr. Reliables’.
The A3s are now in 6th place and next week travel to Mansfield.
The A5s played at home where they hosted Wodonga, and as with the A3s started early to avoid the predicted heat.
Early mornings seem to suit the A5s who won 57 shots and 12 points to Wodonga 46 shots and 2 points.
Leading the charge for the Golf Club were Sue Evans (L), Carolyn Boston (2), Les Balfour (3) and Ron Lamson (S), who won easily 33 shots to Wodonga 12 shots.
The A5s are in 6th place on the ladder, and next week travel to Milawa.

It is with sadness that we convey the recent passing of esteemed member Bill Butterworth. A function for Bill was held at YMGCR last Friday where Bill’s family and friends remembered Bill’s life.
