Ray Irvine (S), Gary Presnell (3), Shirley Hummel (2), and Ian Febey (L), brought home 2 valuable points, beating their opposition 16 shots to 13 shots.
The A2s were at home to Corowa RSL and couldn’t translate the home ground advantage into a win over the section’s top team. YMGCR had 46 shots and 2 points to Corowa RSL 62 shots and 12 points. All was not lost, however, with Lynne Baxter (L), Jan Morton (2), Pam Dodman (3), and Doddy Dodman (S), securing 2 points for YMGCR 20 shots to 16 shots. The A2s have now slid a couple of rungs down the ladder to 7th place, but with a form reversal, could find themselves knocking on the door of finals.

After this week’s game, Wednesday Social will resume on January 10, 2024.
Weekend Pennant
The A1s entertained Rutherglen and almost made a clean sweep of proceedings, winning 94 shots and 16 points to Rutherglen’s 78 shots and 2 points. In a game where the results were under 10 shots overall rinks, it was the side of Laureen Smith (L), Ray Irvine (2), Bob Fiddes (3), and Rod Jones (S), who won with a degree of comfort 29 shots to Rutherglen 22 shots.
With a couple of results going their way, YMGCR found themselves on top spot, leading Wodonga in second place by 5 points.

Setting a cracking pace for YMGCR, however, was the rink of Lynne Baxter (L), Liliana Borwick (2), Les Balfour (3), and Marcia McGrillen (S), who won well 22 shots to Rutherglen’s 10 shots. The A4s now sit in 6th place, still with a chance at the finals.

Green Maintenance
The East Green will be undergoing a renovation commencing on or around December 15. This will only leave the West Green for roll-ups. Anticipating a fair number of Christmas corporate bowls events, it may be worth considering which times you decide to have a roll. The East Green should re-open for use around mid-January. Until next week, good bowling.
Tungamah Bowls Club
December 5 Midweek Pennant
A hard day at the office, as expected on this synthetic surface; although we went down with slim margins on two rinks, Tunga won overall by 7 shots, so collected 14 points. This puts us 2nd behind Corowa RSL on the ladder. Thanks to Moyhu for their hospitality. Play at home against Benalla on the 12th.
Thursday, December 7 saw practice, BBQ, Members Draw and Semi-Finals of the Club Championships. Dylan Sidebottom played “Cricket” Haebich, Dylan was the victor by a slim margin. Tim Stapleton played Anthony Clota, and Tim was the one to go to the finals to play Dylan for the Championship. Diane Sampson played Joy Watt and went on to play Kerry Ralph, who defeated Betty Starkey.
The final is on Thursday 14th. Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell will also be visiting; apparently, he is keen to learn the skill of Lawn Bowls and to check our Club out. He can’t believe our membership or the weekly support of our locals. Let him see what Thursday nights are really like. “GO HOPPERS”
December 9, Saturday A3: Tungamah at home (again) to Beechworth.
Beechworth liked our green, winning three rinks and overall. We got one rink, so 16 to 2 pts. We confess we were 6 players down on short notice and appreciate the contribution of all players who stepped up.
To go down by only 10 shots wasn’t a bad result, taken in context.
This result does put us back to 5th spot, but if we consolidate and look to the finals all should be good. Players will be returning, we hope.
Next week, we travel to Milawa on December 16, probably starting early for Christmas Break Up. Hope we give ourselves an early Christmas present. Return January 13 against Moira.
December 9, Saturday B2s: Away to Corowa RSL.
This was a very close game with RSL getting up 60 to 59 shots, Tunga winning just the one rink, so got just 2 points but retain 2nd spot on the ladder and a game clear of 3rd. at home to Club Mulwala for the last game before Christmas, we return on January 20 with a trip to Wodonga.
From Tungamah Hoppers to all bowlers and their friends, we wish you a safe, happy Christmas with your loved ones. We will see you in the new year.
