Tungamah Bowls Club
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
New season of bowls for Ovens and Murray Clubs commences this Saturday, October 12 with midweek commencing on Tuesday, October 15.
Tungamah has had two practice matches. Numurkah Golf hosted Tunga, and after a competitive game, the club enjoyed their hospitality.
A bus trip, the first for some, was an added enjoyable bonus.
Tunga then played host to Yarrawonga. Rain made the afternoon game shorter than planned but the social side certainly made up for it.
Tunga Bowls appreciated the company and the fact that they bought so many players. There were five rinks which was great considering some thought it was probably too wet to play and didn’t turn up.
Tungamah has plans at foot for a Monster Raffle specifically to aid the Building Fund, this along with other ideas to boost the balance are planned.
Don’t forget the annual Horse Auction on November 4, book your table now. Many memberships, both social and player have been paid. Members draw about to commence.
Thursday nights are again proving popular, but some familiar faces are absent because of the cold weather or illness, hope to see them soon.
A casserole night last week instead of usual BBQ proved popular and the club appreciated the selection provided and the help on the night.
BBQ and social side this Thursday, the club hope to see all players at practice as teams will need to be selected for coming matches.
Club events are planned to commence a bit earlier this year to aid in competitive practice.
YMGCR Bowls
Wednesday social bowls
Last Wednesday, again saw a good turnout of bowlers with 34 players participating.
The weather was fine and both greens were running well.
The winners on the day were two visitors, Richard and Jan Hermassoo, whose first prize was $140 and a drink card.
Due to the number of players participating, there was a one rink game of triples and the Runners Up winning rink prize was won by Anne Miles, Greg Green and Andy Lefevre who won $60.
The Losing Rink consolation prize went to Gavin and Liliana Borwick, who shared $30. The first Lucky Number prize of $20 went to Ron Lamson and the second Lucky Number prize of $10 went to Robyn Forge.
Just a reminder that Wednesday social bowls will be continuing through the pennant season.
2024/2025 pennant season preview
It’s that time of year again with both weekend pennant, and midweek commencing this Saturday and next Tuesday respectively.
YMGCR will be fielding three sides this season in the Weekend Competition with sides in A1, A3 and A5.
In the Midweek competition, YMGCR have sides in A1 and A2.
The club have farewelled a number of players over the cooler months who have moved on to other clubs.
On the incoming player side of the ledger, YMGCR welcome Ian Brimbilcombe, who played weekend pennant last year on a permit from Wangaratta.
Ian has transferred to YMGCR and is playing both weekend and midweek for YMGCR, welcome aboard Ian.
The A1s have the long trip to Kiewa in the first round, and Kiewa always present a challenge on their home deck.
The A3s play host to Mansfield, and this should be a close-run game for the home side. The A5s entertain Milawa, at the Golf Club, and as no YMGCR side has been in the same section as Milawa for some time, YMGCR need to be on their toes.
In the midweek comp the A1s also have the long haul to Kiewa in the first game, and this game should give the A1s an indication of the strength of their side, and prospects for the season.
The scribes tip is the visitors in what should be a close-run affair.
In contrast to the A1s long trip, the A2s have the short hop over to Club Mulwala in what should be a hard fought local derby.
Good luck to all YMGCR players for the upcoming season.
Until next week, good bowling.

Runners up were Peter Velardo and Trevor Kilpatrick. Jackpot was not claimed.
Wednesday 3 bowl triples saw 14 players battle it out, with J Barnes, J Shaw, K Tait and K McQualter taking the win.
Tuesday, September 31 was an entertaining and good hit out with an intraclub practice for mid-week pennant.
Friday afternoon saw Yarra Bowls head to a very soggy practice match at Tungamah which has become a regular event and always played in great spirit.
Although disrupted by rain, the wet weather didn’t dampen enthusiasm and the clubs own Batman kept everyone entertained, knocking everyone with great regularity and hilarity!
Pizzas were sensational, thanks for the hospitality, Tungamah ☺️
A little birdie may have told the scribe that a certain someone new to the club rolled 2 consecutive wrong biases on the roll up. Totally perplexed she then realised she had placed the club rings on the wrong side of her bowls!
The scribe does believe she almost landed a resting toucher.. in the next rink!
Thanks for being a good sport and welcome to the club Bev.
The first club event, the 21 up is coming to the pointy end with Di Day and Claire Sanders set to contest the lady's final at 10am Tuesday, October 8 and the men’s Final between Gary Sanders and Mick Szabo at 10am on Sunday, October 13.
Good luck to all and get down and support them.
Season opener this Saturday, October 12th. Keep your eyes on the boards for selection. Let’s start and end the season united, focused on success but most of all having fun.
Good bowling and good health to all.
