Sitting third on the ladder of the regular competition, Fire Brigade has only one round to play before the finals start on Sunday, February 18.
Moama and Echuca Green sit above Fire Brigade, which has a final round match with fourth ranked Bamawm-Lockington United on February 9 at Northern Oval.
It will be keen to put the T20 final result into the back of its mind after winning the toss and batting.
Fire Brigade was 5-31 before losing its last five wickets for 15 runs — all out for 46.
Moama opening batter Archie Teasdale and Tongala recruit Hudson Kellett — a star throughout this season — were not out 13 and 23 respectively as Moama scored the winning runs in 8.1 overs.
Kellett struck two boundaries in his innings, which strangely enough — considering the format — were among only four boundaries scored in the Moama Recreation Reserve match.
Only one Fire Brigade batter, opener Marley Gordon, managed double figures as the team was blasted out for less than half-a-century in only 14.1 overs in the final of the T20 competition.
Fire Birgade lost stars Hamish Stewart and Lachlan Carver in the space of four balls in the second over as Moama’s Rochester recruit Liam Edge took the first of five wickets.
In the 13th over of the Kyabram team’s innings he repeated his earlier heroics by claiming the scalps of opening bat Gordon (the seventh man out) and Lachlan Werner.
Edge removed Max Barrett with the first ball of the 14th over, giving him figures of 5-11 from 3.1 overs.
· Fire Brigade won its way into the final when it beat Rochester with seven wickets in hand and more than four overs up its sleeve.
Riley Carver was the star of that match, taking 4-10 from four overs and he had support from Lachlan Werner, with 2-10 from four overs.
Lachlan Carver, who recently debuted at A-grade level in the GMC, was not out 34 (from 30 deliveries and with four boundaries) in the run chase.
Fire Brigade reeled in the 20-over Rochester total of 9-71 in 15.1 overs as another former Tongala player — Braith Northausen — was not out 30 (from 20 deliveries, with three boundaries and a six at the final bell.
· In its other T20 match the Fire Brigade outfit chose to bat after winning the toss against Bamawm-Lockington United — a decision which paid dividends when it amassed 3-156 from 20 overs.
Hamish Stewart, Hunter Fawcett and Lachlan Carver retired with 30-plus scores, while Oliver Barnett (not out 20) and Braith Northausen (17) also contributed.
In response BLU managed only 6-95, with Dylan Priest claimnig 2-18, supported by Marley Gordon and Lachlan Werner.
· Moama won its qualifying match by nine wickets, taking just 7.1 overs to score the necessary 57 runs to beat Nondies-Cohuna.
