Yarrawonga AFL journeyman James Jordon is likely to play in his second grand final and possibly premiership for the Sydney Swans this Saturday.
Jordon, who was picked up at number 33 in the 2018 AFL National Draft, played in Melbourne’s 2021 premiership win, albeit spending the entire game on the bench as the unused sub.
He went on to play 65 games for Melbourne before Sydney coach John Longmire (who hails from Corowa and has a holiday house in Yarrawonga) picked him up.
The 23-year-old midfielder needed a fresh start and was the first player to change clubs during last year's free agency period.
Jordon who played 25 games for Sydney this year and averages 15 possessions, is expected to be picked for Saturday’s AFL Grand Final.
There will be at least 21 and possibly 22 first-time premiership players on both sides on Saturday, with only Luke Parker and Jordon in the Sydney side and Josh Dunkley in the Brisbane side, having tasted the ultimate AFL success.
Another Yarrawonga local, Caleb Mitchell, who was picked up by Sydney at number 40 in the 2022 AFL National Draft, has played two matches for the Swans this season.
