The Redbacks suffered a heavy defeat on Saturday to impressive ladder leader Waaia, but are expected to bounce back against lowly Karramomus in the final home and away round starting on Saturday.
But it will need cut-throat clashes between Nagambie and Katamatite and Numurkah and Central Park-St Brendan’s to go their way to be a chance to slip back into the top six which it slipped from as the result of Saturday’s loss to the flag favourite.
Resuming at 1-39 on Saturday Waaia made short work of overhauling Kyabram’s disappointing first innings total of 144, claiming a six-wicket first innings win in 48 overs.
Reinhardt Engler with an unbeaten 43 and Quinton Venter with 48 shared a match-winning fourth wicket stand of 76 which took the home side within four runs of victory when the game resumed on Saturday.
Kyabram’s only multiple wicket-taker was Jackson McLay with 2-60 off 21 overs.
Charlie McLay was the only other Kyabram bowler to send down more than five overs with 16 overs in which he claimed 1-38.
X Kyabram’s B-grade side cruised to a six-wicket win over Waaia to entrench itself in top place on the ladder.
Resuming at 2-62 chasing Waaia’s 156, Jason Leocata with 75 off 135 balls, Ethan Hart (33) and Lukas Hanslow with an unbeaten 48 off 49 balls with nine fours and a six built Kyabram’s score to 4-191.
Kyabram meets bottom side Karramomus in the final home and away round, a game it should win to finish the round on top the ladder.
X In E-grade, Kyabram took only 10 overs to cover Waaia’s score of 62 in which six bowlers took wickets.
Young Liam McInnes with 2-7 off five overs, Riley Nicholson with 2-9 and Andrew Halstead with 2-10 set up the Kyabram win with the ball and then prolific scoring skipper Marc Coates with 42 off 24 balls with five sixes and one four delivered the win and early finish to the game.
Kyabram meets Murchison, Katandra and Mooroopna in the final three home and away games.
