On what looked a great batting wicket and fast outfield, the Lakers were made to bowl after losing the coin toss.
Angus McMillan broke the opening partnership early with the score on 7, having their opener caught behind by Reid Clarke, with another wicket soon to follow, Van Kreeck whipping the ball into Reid Clarke for a smart run out.
This brought Ovens Valley’s coach Geeth Alwis to the crease, who alongside another of their import players, combined for a partnership of 120 runs.
Angus Heslin was introduced back into the attack for his second spell, and found success, removing their opener for 55.
Soon after, Ben Welsh had his first ever A grade wicket with a well flighted ball, ripping past the outside edge and taking the top of off stump.
Jobe Fraser and Kreeck each picked up a wicket, but the Lakers bowlers didn’t have any answers for their coach, who finished on 140 off 138 deliveries.
With the score on 298, Ovens Valley declared, leaving the Lakers with three overs to face.
Archibald and Clarke saw off the overs, finishing 0/9.
A special mention to young Laker Jordan Knight, who fielded for the majority of the day when a couple of Lakers went down with soft tissue injuries.
A huge effort, well done Jord.
A reserve record second win
Yarrawonga Mulwala 6/161 def Ovens Valley United 9/112.
After a couple of weeks off the twos returned to Victoria Park against Ovens Valley. Losing the toss, Ovens chose to bat and things didn’t start too well losing gun all-rounder Nehal Tahir to hamstring tightness within the first over.
Fortunes changed as Dishot and Connell put the screws on Ovens top order, with the help of hot hand Buerckner taking yet another sharp chance to open the account.
After their allotted 8 overs each Dishot 3/27 and the self confessed ‘magician with the ball’ Connell 2/12 reduced ovens to 5/40.
A fight back was staged until Tom ‘Doc’ Lovell and TJ Docking started spinning a web holding the opposition to 9 for 112, with TJ finishing with 3 wickets.
‘Mr versatile’ Cope along with ‘fitness fanatic’ Smart took on the task of playing positive unfortunately Cope’s bails were dislodged with one that skidded through.
Enter 200 club game veteran Justin O’Brien who was in the mood to break more records, becoming the highest scorer in his 200th game surpassing the previous record by getting off the mark… unfortunately his stay, as well as Buerckner’s, didn’t last long. Dishot and Smart were able to see the team home with an impressive 68 run partnership.
Dishot finding gaps at will and Smart putting away anything loose with a healthy mix of patience.
Pickering senior smacked a few around with a run a ball 15 as did Lovell finishing 20 not out.

The Under 12 Rams played beautifully to come away with a convincing win against Delatite Gold.
Losing the toss, the young Rams were sent into bat on a cool evening at the Arundel St oval in Benalla.
George Hill and Layken Saunders opened proceedings and got the Ram’s score off to a positive start.
Saunders and Finn O’Brien were both dismissed after playing some fine shots.
Murphy Doyle and George Kennedy steadied the innings, both retiring with 17 and 13 runs respectably.
Ned O’Brien played a dashing knock to compile a fine 14. The Doyle brothers, Murphy and Paddy met for the first time in the middle, reminiscent of the Waugh brothers from years gone by.
