YMCC are extremely pleased to advise that the W&DCA are now calling on clubs to field teams in the new Under 13s All Girls Cricket League.
The club has a keen group of about 16 girls in training each week, but it is not too late for girls to join in.
“We are seeking the interest of girls aged 10yo-14yo in being a part of the YMCC’s inaugural All Girls Team to compete in the W&DCA competition in season 2023-2024,” organiser Peter Brear said.
“If you or your friends want to be involved in Australia’s favourite sport, cricket, come along to training or contact me on (0408 403 803) via the club email: yarramulcc@bigpond.com.
The Lakers All Girls Team have been training for about four weeks now and are learning the skills of the game and have played a couple of practice matches.
If numbers continue to grow a second YMCC U13s Girls Team is a strong possibility this season.
“This is a chance to become a foundation member of a team that will represent the Yarrawonga-Mulwala community and make history by being the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Team’s first female cricket team,” Mr Brear said.
“The YMCC are strongly committed to female cricket and have long advocated for creation of the Under 13s competition to give young girls the opportunity to progress on the cricket youth pathway.”
This step will see the competition evolve season by season to become an open age competition that will be supported by age groups in various junior grade competitions underneath as participants of all ages join in greater numbers.
The Lakers will play its first game in the W&DCA All Girls Cricket League on Friday 10th November 2023.
Please pass this information on to any young girls (10yo-14yo) who wish to play cricket with the Lakers. The club’s message is: “Bring your friends and play cricket together.”
