An early onslaught of direct goal kicking has ensured Mulwala came out dominant victors against Barooga at Lonsdale Reserve on Saturday.
The inaccuracies of the past few weeks disappeared from the Mulwala team as early goals to Will Gorman, best on ground Jackson Meade and Tommy Dow put Barooga under immense pressure.
The five goals to one first quarter was set up brilliantly by ruckman Brodie Tyson who was giving Mulwala first use of the ball through the middle of the ground which they used to great effect.
The second and third quarters were controlled by Mulwala as Dylan McNamara and Beau Seymour took charge of the backline and Charley McKenna and Will Gorman ran rampant between the arcs.
Jackson Meade was prolific in the win and again showed why he is admired by his teammates with his work ethic as the lead up forward up the ground and outworking his opponent back to goal to finish with four.
Max O’Bryan playing the sub role from the thirds was unlucky not to hit the scoreboard late in the game as his teammates began to look for him however the damage had been done as Mulwala ran away with a 49-point victory.
Overall, a fantastic win for the team only surpassed by the fantastic time the ladies were having on the hill for Ladies Day. Special mention and clear best off the ground for the day award must go to Cara Wood for organizing such a great day.
The Mulwala Lions now sit third on the ladder with seven wins and will travel to Cobram next week.
Reserves
The Reserves have run away with a convincing victory against a determined Barooga side.
Cam Nye was unstoppable in the forward line and finished with 7 goals 1 behind as the heckling from his former Barooga teammates only fuelled his determination to kick straight.
Sean Robinson was fighting with brother Dylan for marks in the forward line until Coach Orr moved Dylan further up the ground and inserted the young superstar Mitch Adkins who was finding space in the forward fifty and kicked truly on multiple occasions.
Captain for the day Nathan Beasley and Seb Hargreaves battled hard on the larger Barooga forwards and came away with the chocolates at the end of the day.
Austin Fraeunfelder was gallant in the ruck all day contending against multiple opponents.
Jaxen Wheeler was having difficulty finding space with all the key forwards and moved himself into the leading forward on the wings to great effect in the second half as Cam Magher continued to fine tune his game to levels achieved before injury last year.
A necessary win puts the team a game clear in equal top spot on the ladder.
Under 17s
With several senior players missing from the side, the magnets were moving around the board fast.
Jai Sneddon and Baxter Donovan were elusive in the forward line as Mulwala took control of the match early and were able to convert going forward from the great pressure up the field of Nash McNamara and Beau Sissons.
A handy five goal lead at half time turned sour as Barooga increased the pressure and Mulwala got sloppy.
Charley Drake was moved into the ruck with great effect and Maiko Leith was brilliant off the back flank, but the forwards were unable to convert, and Barooga were making the most of their opportunities to peg back the lead.
Inaccurate kicking would almost be the boys' undoing, as they kicked 1 goal 8 behinds to let Barooga back in the match. However, they held on in the end to a much harder-than-anticipated win.
Under 14s
The young Lions were keen to make amends for last week's poor showing against Congupna and came out firing from the onset.
The welcome addition back into the team of Captain Axel Saunders made life difficult for the Barooga midfielders as he and Archer Kirchen were prolific around the middle of the ground. The forward half was functioning smoothly, with Henry Donovan and Fletcher Woodhead dominating the Barooga defence and capitalizing on most forward entries.
Young Vandah Dominick-Falzon took a strong mark deep in the forward half and converted for his first goal of the season after working hard all game.
Jackson Smith and Logan Cooper were too strong for the Barooga counterparts and controlled their positions all day.
Another great win for the boys as they gear up for a top of the ladder clash with Cobram.
