B Grade
Yarrawonga 40 were defeated by North Albury 44
Best: Maddy Kennedy, Olivia Lovell.
B Grade were playing fancied second-placed North Albury. We welcomed back Chloe Wheaton, who is playing during her mid-term break, and Abby Chapman from injury.
The first quarter was even and both sides fought hard to keep possession. North Albury went into the second quarter with a slight lead. Maddy Kennedy played well in goals and was a constant option in the circle, working well with both Briar and Dee. Abby also got into some great front positions and provided a lot of movement in the goal ring for her first quarter on.
Chloe worked well with Liv and both girls got their hands to some great intercepts and rebounds, which helped Yarrawonga stay in touch. Sophie, Jac, Grace and Em work well together in the midcourt and, with their never give up attitude, Yarrawonga were always in the game.
The third quarter was even but Yarrawonga could not seem to break away from the North Albury side. Within four goals going into the fourth quarter, the Pigeons started well but could not maintain the intensity and North Albury showed their strength and were the final victors by four.
C Grade
Yarrawonga 44 defeated North Albury 43
Best: Hollie and Sophie.
The C Grade girls knew coming into this game it would be a close one. Both teams came out strongly in the first quarter and showed throughout the game it could go either way – the scores even throughout the whole match. Our girls stayed calm in the last few minutes of the game, winning by one goal.
Under 17s
Yarrawonga 18 lost to North Albury 51
Awards: Skai McConnell, Milla Fletcher.
The Under 17s put up a strong fight against North Albury but unfortunately the opposition were too strong. Despite the loss the girls played very well as a team. Skai demonstrated her versatility in the goal ring while Zoe’s height paid off as she successfully got rebounds and intercepts.
Mia and Emma worked well together in the midcourt, feeding the ball into the shooters. Strong defensive pressure was applied by Milla. Great effort, girls!
Under 15s
Yarrawonga 31 lost to North Albury 42
Best: Leni Ramsdale, Ruby O’Kane.
The Under 15s lost to North Albury by 11 goals. The Hoppers got out to a strong lead early, playing a very strong full-court defence and getting lots of turnovers via interceptions.
Yarrawonga stayed competitive as we swapped Leni from goals into defence. Yarrawonga played well in the third and fourth quarters and won those terms but were unable to make up the difference.
Ruby and Ella combined well together in goals, and Winnie and Leni did the same in defence. The Hoppers’ shooter was putting on effective holds but Leni was able to drop back to assist in defending the passes to her.
