It was an eagerly anticipated match-up against a side not previously faced due to inclement weather.
The Rhinos won the toss and chose to bowl first, and Katamatite started the match well with both opening batsmen retiring not out.
The Rhinos’ opening bowling partnership of Henry Pisasale and Ned Wettenhall had an exceptional night with the ball, containing the Katamatite team well with figures of 0/9 after four overs for Ned and 1/11 after four overs for Henry.
Daniel Burn was also extremely economical with the figures of 1/6 after four overs.
Wickets for Oliver Bull and Jake Wharton ensured Katamatite’s innings stalled.
Economical bowling from George Marshall, Jacob Holschier, George Bull and Thomas Marshall also kept Katamatite to 50 runs.
The Rhinos followed up the bowling with steady batting on a tricky pitch.
Several players ended their innings not out, the highlights being Red Ricon’s boundary (the only one from either team) and season-best batting performances from Jake Wharton, Jacob Holschier and Henry Pisasale.
The Rhinos reached 51 runs in 15 overs, their best win of the season.
The Wired coaching award was shared by two players - Henry Pisasale and Jake Wharton.
Jacob Holschier also received a mention for his much-improved performance.
Tonight, the under-13s play at Deni Memorial Park against Nathalia from 5pm.
All are welcome to come along and support the young Rhinos.
