The Roos senior men put on a final quarter shootout on Saturday scoring 4.7 to Lavington’s 3.4, but unfortunately it was too little too late against Lavington Panthers.
In perfect conditions, the Roos got off to a nice start for the game, but the radar was a little off, kicking 3.5 to lead by 4 points at the first change.
Jim Sandral medal favourite Ryan Eyers was busy once again, getting involved in the action in his usual defensive post.
Also busy, and another Jim Sandral medal threat, was Jordan Eyers - what a sight it would be if these two topped the charts on medal night.
Jordan Eyers was keeping the midfield group on top of their game with his defensive prowess, whilst running mate and another Roo Junior graduate Jedd Longmire was just a pure wrecking ball.
With plenty of strong clearance work courtesy of Longmire and Eyers, the Roos’ forwards had plenty of opportunities, and it was a second gamer who reaped most of the rewards.
Deniliquin junior Tyson Willis, in only his second senior game for the Roos, bobbed up with three goals for the afternoon despite copping some attention by the Lavington defense after his first goal.
Sam Dunstan also kicked two goals to bring his majors tally to 51 for the season in what was an incredible effort for the big man.
Fellow recruit Darcy Hope also kicked one and was named in the best again, putting his name even further in the frame of Jim Sandral medal contention with another stellar effort.
Hope also gave the travelling Roos’ fans another highlight to remember with a huge mark in front of the Lavi grandstand.
Heading into the final term, the Roos were down by 38 with only five goals to their account, however got busy and peppered the scorecard to go out with a bang.
Piling on both his majors was Dunstan, whilst Willis and his brother Tyson also got on the board, but the Roos also kicked seven behinds in a frenetic final stanza; the final scoreline Lavington14.13.97 Corowa 9.14.68.
The Roos will take stock on a successful return to Ovens & Murray football, with both eyes fixated on building from this foundation in 2025.
Despite just the one victory on the scorecard, the group should be proud of their efforts in fronting up and being incredibly competitive in every hitout. Bring on 2025!

Reserves
Lavington 32.17.209 def Corowa Rutherglen 2.5.17.
The Roos’ reserves limped over the finish line in a difficult game against finals-bound Lavington. Shorthanded once again, the Roos put what they could together but were hit again with injuries during the game which hurt their final score.
Tom Young brought his own footy to the game, racking up possession at will whilst young-gun Jack Keys was outstanding once again.
Staunch defender John Conroy was impressive again, despite a five-minute stint up forward before moving himself back to where he was needed most, whilst coach Sam Haigh was inspirational playing through injury.
A huge credit goes to Haigh and the regular faces amongst the Roo reserves, including Will Bott, Jedd Ansell, Ben Black, Kayne Quirk, Conroy and Ryan Hansen as well as the durable Keys, Lenny Hill, Judd Kuschert and Jonah Massey-Chase who backed up from the under 18s regularly.
The Roos had an aim to 'keep the wheels on the bus' in 2024, and should be proud of fronting up every week to get a game of community football up and running.
Awards: Tom Young, John Conroy, Jonah Massey-Chase, Ben Kuncal.

Another tough week for our boys against another quality opposition.
But the weather Gods turned it on for our final game. It was a solid start by both sides were really clean early and it was a battle for territory.
On the big ground we were able to control the game and surge forward, but were unable to get more scores on the board.
After the first break we were unable to get much momentum our way. Lavington’s pressure around the contest was massive, but we still able to find some quality passages. Hitting scoreboard was still proving to be a struggle.
Our last half was fantastic, and as always, the boys continued to hunt and find a way to move the ball forward, though we were out-scored.
Like many games throughout the season, the boys did not give up until the final siren.
A massive thank you to all players, families, supporters, committee, volunteers, trainers, netball program and wider club community for all your continued support throughout 2024. We couldn’t have done it without you all. Bring on 2025!
