The best players will have earnt the awards by displaying the characteristics of those Australians who engaged in war conflict including bravery, courage, determination, dedication, commitment and teamwork.
Corowa RSL Sub-Branch and Corowa Rugby Club joined forces for the awards after the suggestion was made by the rugby club and presented last year.
Rugby club 2024 committee member, Rob Eddy describes himself as “a modern veteran” with an army background in infantry and truck driving.
He was actively involved in the suggestion and knowing the significance of the RSL Sub-Branch and support in the past, he was keen to see action increased this year.
“The awards are based on the ethos of Australians in the wars and post-game there will be a presentation night where Corowa Cougars and Wangaratta Knights will be present,” Rob said.
Montana Hargreaves from the Corowa Cougars team said the whole club was very proud to be involved in the Anzac game and with the awards recognising “those who fought for the life we’re privileged to have today”.
Corowa RSL Sub-Branch president, Lesley Rinehart welcomed the more formal suggestion of an awards night presentation.
“We welcome the whole idea and appreciate the thoughts of the Corowa Rugby Club,” she said.
As did Club Corowa President Jenni Delaney who said: “Our club is pleased to be involved.”
All past and present RSL Sub-Branch members will be admitted free to the game on April 27 upon presentation of their medals.
