Four relay teams and six individuals competed in primarily running events on Wednesday, November 1 as well as triple and long jump.
Regardless of placings, the state competition was a great success for Sacred Heart Primary with all students pleased with their entries and results.
Summer New competed in the 200m, 800m and relay at states, coming away with an 8th, 9th and 7th placing respectively.
“I was lucky to come first in both the 200m and 800m as well as our relay at regionals to then make state,” Summer said.
“It was fun to compete at state and I am proud of what I have done.
“In each of my individual events I also made personal bests which I am very happy with.”
The 9/10 aged girls relay team consisting of Edie Thomson, Lily Leslie, Tippi Simmons and Amelie Coll said that qualifying for state was scary but after it was over, they wanted to do it all again.
“We are proud of what we did,” Lily said.
“We missed the final by 0.04 of a second,” the four girls chimed in at once.
The Under 11 girls relay team consisting of year 5 students Summer New, Ruby Phillips, Lyla Payne and Sienna Gallagher finished fourth in their heats then seventh in the state, the only of the relay teams to make the final.
“I tried to push myself harder once I was out there to do better,” Lyla said.
“Our parents, brothers and sisters and friends came to support,” Ruby said.
“It was good having them there cheering us on,” Sienna and Summer said.
Siblings Max and Amelie Coll who also both made state in cross country earlier this year, both represented the school in relays as well an individual events as Max competed in the triple jump while Amelie took part in the long jump.
“I came 12th out of 23 and had so much fun,” Max said.
“100% I am proud that I got to go to state. This is the second time being at state this year.”
“I came 6th out of 17. I loved competing and love our training at Yarra Mul Little Aths,” Amelie added.

Sacred Heart Primary School Sport Leader Dean Carroll said this year has been ‘something special’ with so much success across the athletics fields.
“I, and the wider school community, are really proud of what the school has achieved this year,” Mr Carroll said.
“This is the biggest group we have ever sent to state and even the commentators on the livestream noticed that Sacred Heart kept being mentioned which was great to hear.
“To send as many kids as we did, from a school and town of our size, was fantastic.
“It all stemmed from our PE classes, through to the school carnival, regionals and then state.
“It looks like a few of these students have a future in athletics and we are looking forward to seeing their progression.
“We’d also like to thank Lauren Simmons, Bec Coll and Jodie New who assisted and helped our students prepare for the State Aths with some extra training sessions and coaching support on the day.
“We also had huge support back at school. The school students and staff supported our students by watching the live feed on the TV plasmas which was great to hear.”
