Two Seymour athletes have just had success on the Victorian Athletic League circuit.
Lucy Zotti and Mandessah Wyatt have both won races over the past two weeks.
Zotti won the 400m women’s race at Mentone, and Mandessah won the open 1600m race at Shepparton.
While both girls are proud of their recent achievements, they’re determined to keep improving and stay at the top.
Zotti, the more experienced runner of the pair, said she was keen to capitalise on her stellar form.
“I am in the best physical shape of my career,” Zotti said.
“I hope to win another race before heading to Stawell, which is the ultimate goal to obtain a win.”
Both runners are members of the highly successful Kelfit Squad that is working towards more success in the coming weeks and hopefully major success at Stawell.
Kelfit coach Kelvin Lubeck said the professionalism of both athletes was impressive.
“Both girls are very talented, with Lucy being a very diverse runner in that she can win races from 100m up to 800m and Mandessah, who at 16 years of age, is capable of running 800m up to 5km,” Lubeck said.
“The whole squad of 12 runners are having the best season so far, with all runners having made finals and running personal best times.
“They are very professional in their approach. They train three to four times a week and compete most weekends at venues around Victoria and South Australia.”
Mandessah, who is only new to pro running, said she loved being part of the squad, and the help and advice from the coach and other runners had given her greater insight into the sport.
She also said that all the training came with its perks.
“I love winning and making money,” she said.
The Kelfit squad has recently created an Instagram page called @kelfittrack for those interested in following along with updates on all athletic performances.
