The prestigious Club Championships were held on the weekend. It was fantastic to see 93 club members competing during the two days.

The courts were filled to capacity most of the time and it was fantastic to see a lot of families competing.
In a new initiative, the Junior Club Championships commenced on Saturday morning and then continued into Sunday morning.
There were four different age groups and each player competed in two different age brackets.
Some of the groups had some very strong draws with the 14/U Boys being the largest having 27 players.
A few players that played well into Sunday completed 9 sets of singles for the weekend which was a sensational achievement.
Most of the events were completed but there are few events still to play finals. Due to this a full list of winners will appear next week.
The Senior Club Championships were played on Sunday and it was great to see many people having a hit.
The events consisted of Open Singles, 18/U Singles, 35+ Singles and Open Doubles.
Some of the events were completed and the remaining matches will finish over the next week.
The Open Finals will see siblings Lucy Bassett play Tess Bassett in the ladies and Jack Bassett play Damian Cook in the mens.
Damian had an amazing match against Fraser Bennett in the semi-final. In a 3 set match that last nearly 3 hours Damian won 13-11 in the third set tiebreaker.
Wilby Tennis
Semi-finals of the Wilby and District were played on Friday night in various venues of the region. Each match produced some fantastic tennis and a lot of banter.
The highlight of the finals was the fact that there were 21 juniors participating across the teams.
This only bodes well for the future of the association.
Tungamah Green hosted Mulwala Gold on the banks of the Boosey Creekin the first A Grade semi-final. The mens section was extremely close with Tungamah winning 4 sets to 2 but on games only winning by 1. Jamie Hicks was best for Tungamah winning all of his sets.
Tungamah’s ladies combined very well to win 5 sets to 1. With a few substitutes no lady won all three sets. Tungamah won the mixed 3 sets to 1 to win the night overall 86 games to 61.
Telford and Burramine played on the beautiful Yarrawonga grass courts in the other A Grade semi-final. Telford’s men were ruthless and dominated the night to win all 6 sets. Craig Stevenson, Andrew Brew, Andrew Banks and Brett Lawrence were all in great form.
Burramine fought back in the ladies to share the sets and win this section by a single game. Indicating how even it was no ladies won all of their sets. Again, the mixed was shared 2 sets all with Telford winning on games. Overall, a strong win to Telford 81 games to 53.
Wilby and Savernake also played at Yarrawonga in the B Grade semi-final. Wilby’s mens combination of Mike Lairson, Viktor Lairson, Russell Whinray and Fraser Smart all played well to win all 6 sets.
In the ladies, Wilby also proved too strong winning 5 sets to 1 with Amy Lairson and Kayla Whinray both winning all of their matches. Wilby also won the mixed 4 sets to 0. Wilby winning the night 95 games to 38.
A strong commendation to Savernake on fighting out the season after losing many players to injury.
Mulwala Maroon hosted Tungamah Gold in the second B Grade semi-final. The mens section was very close with each team winning 3 sets although Tungamah won by 7 games.
No man won all of their matches. Tungamah’s ladies played very well to win 5 sets to 1 with Debbie Hayes and Zoe Kelly both being undefeated.
Tungamah also took out the mixed section 3 sets to 1. Tungamah Gold the winners 85 games to 53.
Grand Finals will be held this Friday night at Yarrawonga. In A Grade Telford will be looking to go back-to-back against perennial winner Tungamah Green.
B Grade will see Wilby and Tungamah Gold battle it out for supremacy. At the conclusion of the night the Most Valuable Players and Junior Encouragement Awards will be presented.

Saturday morning tennis
The Saturday morning junior program continued with amazing numbers in attendance.
The Hot Shots players really enjoy the range of activities they undertake.
The littlest stars are developing rapidly with most players demonstrating powerful forehands. The coaching groups continue to improve and are enjoying the range of drills they play each week.
Thursday Ladies Tennis
Thursday Ladies continued with wonderful conditions greeting the players. The quality of the tennis was high and many matches were finished in darkness as the length of rallies were amazing.
Tiny Teddies and Kingstons had a good battle with Tiny Teddies winning 4 sets to 2. Samantha Webster was the star of the night winning all of her sets.
Tics Toes’s combination of Win Win Htwe, Kirsty Skene, Lisa Ramadge and Sara Humprhy were in great form as they defeated Oreos 6 sets to 0.
It was a similar result in the next match with Tim Tams winning 6 sets to 0 against Monte Carlos. Tims Tams’s squad of Erin York, Abeey Hammon, Jil Mullaly and Natalie Dowling were all hitting the ball beautifully.
The final match was a close contest with Choc Royals defeating Iced Vo Vos 4 sets to 2. Sandra Heaney won all her sets continuing her great recent form.
The ladder after round 2 is Choc Royals 14, Tim Tams 14, Tiny Teddies 12, Tic Tocs 12, Monte Carlos 6, Mint Slices 6, Kingstons 4, Iced Vo Vos 3 and Oreos 1.
Tuesday Mens Tennis
The second last round of the mens competition was played in beautiful conditions last week. Many matches were extremely long indicating how close the night was.
Once again each set was dissected over sensational pizza from Waterside Pizza.
Agassi took on Sampras and Agassi proved too strong with a 4 to 2 sets win. John Brunner was in ruthless form winning all of his 3 sets.
Federer’s combination of Damon Cook, Corey Beggs, Gareth Oughton and Bernard Tomic have clearly been on the practice court. They comprehensively beat Djokovic 6 sets to 0.
The match of the round was between Laver and Becker with the sets split. Amazingly both teams also ended up 27 games meaning a rare tie. Fred Exton was man of the match being undefeated.
Borg and Wilander were very close all night before Borg just snuck home 4 sets to 2. Trent Head was the star on the night winning all of his matches.
Top team McEnroe again flexed their muscle to win 6 sets to 0 against Connors. McEnroe’s combination of Al Angwin, Mick Ibbott, Jim Zanin and Arron Robinson are certainly flag favourites.
In the final match of the night Edberg won 4 sets to 2. There were many close sets and no player won 3 sets.
The ladder after Round 12 is McEnroe 67, Federer 58, Nadal 58, Laver 56, Agassi 49, Lendl 46, Sampras 45, Borg 44, Edberg 44, Connors 44, Becker 39, Wilander 38 and Djokovic 36.
Goulburn Murray Tennis
The final round of Goulburn Murray Tennis was played on the weekend. Numurkah played Shepparton at Numurkah in Division 1.
Numurkah continued to have a late season surge with another strong performance winning the day 7 sets to 5. Jack Bassett was hitting the ball powerfully to win all three of his sets.
Lucy Bassett played well to win both her doubles and singles. Tess Bassett was promoted from Division 2 and won a doubles to show she was not out of her depth.
Numurkah finished third on the ladder and will not face Nathalia in the Elimination Final on Saturday.
If they win that they will need to back up on Sunday in the Preliminary Final.
