Lawn will be holding its annual club championship over two days this year, with day one set to get under way on the evening of Tuesday, February 22 and the second day happening on Sunday, February 27.
The junior club championships for both boys and girls are also set to take place across both days, depending on numbers.
Club president David Bate said the club was breaking from tradition this year.
“We generally play all of the preliminary rounds and the final on the one day, which is a bit of a battle of attrition,” Bate said.
“So we decided this year that we are going to play our preliminary games on the Tuesday night.
“Then we’ll play our final on Sunday the 27th.”
The junior tournament will be held on the same days this year and Bate said the club had seen a few kids coming along and stepping up.
“We’ve only just started having a junior club championship in the past few years which has been a good initiative,” he said.
“We’ve had a real void of young kids coming through, they tend to not transition through, they go from playing to stepping away from it.
“Just to give them a taste is a really good thing.”
Bate revealed there would be plenty of matches for supporters to watch on the Tuesday night, followed by a big day on Sunday.
“On the Sunday we can do a barbecue and everything else so if anyone wants to come along and have a look it would be good,” he said.
“Anyone that’s keen to watch tennis or play tennis, get along to the club, it’s a real arms open environment and we just want people to come along and enjoy what we’ve got because we’ve got a great facility and it’s probably under-utilised.
“We just want to embrace as many people as we can and get around the tennis club.”
The Cobram Lawn Club Championships get under way on Tuesday evening, with day two being played on Sunday, February 27.
Entry to play in the championships is open to club members and it should be a great week of tennis for participants and spectators alike.
